Passive fire protection limits the spread of fire, which makes firefighting considerably easier and protects lives and property.

Within a passive fire protection system, FIRESTOP™ coatings insulate building structures, reduce their temperature and significantly improve their fire resistance.

FIRESTOP coating applied to a steel beam

FIRESTOP™ coatings are expanding (intumescent) thin-film coatings for effective fire protection of steel and wooden structures. In a fire they react and form an insulating foam that protects the structure for up to 120 minutes. This gives firefighters and rescue services the time they need to evacuate people and minimise damage.

The coatings are tested and certified by leading national and international institutes and proven in real fire conditions. They have been applied to more than 600 buildings across Serbia.

Benefits of FIRESTOP coatings

  • Exceptional performance

High fire resistance, certified at 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes, at low film thickness. The foam expands uniformly and forms a stable insulator.

  • High ecological standards

Water-based products with no halogens and no synthetic solvents.

  • Efficient

Lower consumption than other fireproof coatings, which saves material and speeds up work.

  • Fast, easy application

Applied straight from the package without dilution. Layers dry within a few hours, and damage is easy to repair.

  • Durable

    Long service life.

  • Technical support

Support from the engineering team, with training available for contractors.

Mechanism of action

Intumescent coatings combine compounds that act together to form a carbon foam when temperature rises in a fire.

The components react at relatively low temperatures (180–200 °C) under flame, then release gases at around 250 °C that cause the coating to expand.

The foam reaches 10 to 100 times the thickness of the applied coating. Its low thermal conductivity insulates and protects the structure for a set period of time.

Fire protection of steel structures

Thanks to its functionality, durability, cost and design freedom, steel is one of the most common materials in modern construction: industrial buildings, factories and halls, sports and cultural venues, shopping malls, airports, hospitals, schools, hotels and offices.

In a fire, unprotected steel can reach critical temperature quickly and lose its stability and load-bearing capacity. The result can be building collapse, with disastrous social and economic consequences.
